New Window Styles and Design Trends for 2017 in Virginia Beach

January 11, 2017

This time of year is a great time to revamp your home design and window treatments with the best new styles of 2017. From painting your living room, to buying new window coverings or changing out furnishings, we have tips on what’s fashionable this year for home fashion and window treatment trends in Virginia Beach.

Duskier Tones & Pastels

Both pastels and duskier hues are seeing more use while clear, vibrant colors are seeing less use. Shades of cooler colors like blues and grays are especially popular in addition to dusty hues of pink, blue, and yellow. Many hues on the palette are reminiscent of nature from deep blue to Pantone’s color of the year, “Greenery.”. Neutrals are still found throughout the color spectrum with whites, grays and darker browns balancing out the other tones.

The simplest thing you can do to add a spark to the color in your house is to paint most of your walls a neutral color and add in flashes of colors through feature walls, accessories, and small furnishings. Then it’s easy to highlight the latest colors in your home now and change the accessories out when color trends vary down the road. When thinking about new window coverings, go with ones in neutral colors like Polywood® plantation shutters in white or a natural wood color stain. These will easily complement any style or color palette and can stay in place if you switch room colors in the future.

Textures

Natural textures will remain popular this year. Fibers in vogue include weaved material in rugs or baskets, natural or reclaimed wood, and twine. You’ll see these textures showing up in new places like on furniture, headboards, and art work. Add new life into an old belonging with a small project like wrapping a frame in twine or creating an interest piece out of old wood.

Adding textures to your home through window treatments add another level of style to your décor. Reclaimed wood shutters are constructed using aged, weathered wood that was once part of fences or buildings. The wood has unique twists and knots that bring an intrinsic feel to any house. Other window coverings that add texture include Ovation® wood shutters or shades made of natural woven material.

Metals

Furniture, hardware, and accessories that incorporate varying metals are becoming popular across Virginia Beach. Gold, nickel, and brass are especially popular currently. You can add metals to your décor by finding industrial, rustic, and/or vintage pieces such as bar stools, benches, or light fixtures that are built from metals. Also, don’t be afraid to use nickel or brass in your sinks or cabinetry for a more fashion-forward look.

Barn door shutters and sliding barn doors are a great way to incorporate metals and add a streamlined or rustic style to your room. Barn doors are constructed from solid wood and are available in a wide array of hardware such as wheels, sliding tracks, and pull handles that are made of steel.
