Every once in a while we’ll hear a Virginia Beach homeowner say that “all shutters look the same.” Let’s eliminate any misconception – those claims couldn’t be further from the truth.

Many people don’t know the number of options there are when it comes to interior plantation shutters in Virginia Beach, and what kind of impact those options might have. One of the most important of those options is the style of shutter frame you pick.

Virginia Beach Custom Shutter Frames

Your options for shutter frames will depend on four things primarily:

  • How your window operates.

  • The depth of the window jamb.

  • Whether you need to have an inside or outside mount.

  • Your own personal taste.

Some of our shutter frames are offered only in certain materials, like our Polywood® faux wood shutters, a few are only able to work on an inside or outside mount of a window, and some will be a better match for your existing trim, like our Craftsman frame shutters, perfect for Craftsman style homes and offered exclusively by Sunburst.

Let’s take a look at some of the most commonly picked shutter frames for Virginia Beach homeowners.

Craftsman Frame Shutters - You can’t watch House Hunters for more than 5 minutes without seeing Craftsman style. This Sunburst-exclusive frame was designed specifically for Craftsman style houses and homes with similar aesthetics. A Craftsman frame offers a simple, clean look, so no part of your home looks gaudy compared to the rest. If utilizing Craftsman fashion is your desire, this is your shutter frame. Currently available in Polywood and reclaimed wood shutters only.

L-Frame Shutters - An L-frame is possibly the least complex and most functional type of shutter frame. They have a sleek, modern look, and tend to be the easiest to work around if you have a unique window shape. The L-frame can work as both an outside and inside mount, if you’d like to keep your existing window trim, and is available in Polywood® faux wood shutters, Ovation® hardwood shutters, reclaimed wood shutters and Studio™ shutters.

Z-Frame Shutters - Z-frames are a widely-chosen style because they offer a stylish, sophisticated look on your window, much like crown or bass molding. This frame is called a “Z-frame” because of the shape of its exterior, which is mounted on the inside of the window jamb, but hugs the jamb and extends to the outside making a “Z” figure. That extended shape means it can substitute for window trim if you don’t have any existing trim. Z-frames are available in all of our shutter materials.

Decorative Frame Shutters - A decorative frame definitely lives up to its name. With extensive texturing and an eye-catching shape, this frame works best for windows without any trim, or if you want to cover your existing trim. Decorative frames are available in Ovation and Polywood shutters only.
